You Can Buy Colonel Gaddafi’s Maybach For $1 Million

When it comes to German luxury sedans, none do it better than Maybach, the company that takes the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and turns it into a rolling palace on wheels. These cars are usually the reserve of pop stars and bloodthirsty dictators, and this modified Maybach 57 Coupe was nearly owned by the latter. Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, whose regime came to an abrupt end in 2011, specced this specific car, and despite plans to build 100 of these custom coupes, only a handful of cars saw the light of day. This specific car is chassis number four.

This machine started out life as a standard Maybach 57 Sedan, but in 2010 a company called Xenatec took its back doors off and converted it into this very serious coupe. The car is finished off in a two-tone beige color scheme with a white interior and packs an absolutely massive list of features. After all, Mr. Gaddafi demanded only the best for him (not so much his country). Under the hood lies a 6.0-liter V12 producing 620 horsepower which it sends to the rear wheels. Speaking of wheels, this golden chariot rolls on a set of 20-inch LM rims with a 12-spoke design.

The interior plays host to a massive number of features, including a back seat fridge and telephone, front and rear massage seats, and a premium Bose sound system. Seeing as its intended owner saw some intense personal issues come in the way of taking ownership, this car shows only 2,300 km (1,430 miles) on the odometer, and is being sold by Auto Leitner in the Netherlands. When this car was sold new, it went for anywhere between $376,300 and $412,00, but since this one has a special history, and two doors missing, expect to pay a monumental 961,950 Euros ($1.16 million).
