But it’s still cheaper than a Mercedes G-Wagen.

Jeep recently announced that its V8-powered Wrangler Rubicon 392 would start at $73,500. The 2022 Land Rover Defender range was then expanded with a new V8 variant but pricing was kept under wraps. Land Rover has now revealed pricing for the entire 2022 Defender lineup.

Starting with the V8s, the two-door Defender 90 V8 is the cheapest way to get a Defender with eight cylinders, and it still costs a hefty $97,200. The Defender 90 V8 Carpathian Edition is even more expensive at $104,000, and the four-door 110 variants cost $100,400 and $107,200, respectively. The Defender comes with a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 518 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 mph in the 90 model takes just 4.9 seconds, and top speed is 149 mph.

At the opposite end of the range, the base Defender 90 with the 296 hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine now starts at $47,700, a slight increase over last year’s $46,100 starting price. The Defender 90 sees a similar price increase to $51,100. Models with the 3.0-liter 395-hp mild-hybrid turbocharged inline-six include the Defender 90 X-Dynamic S for $59,500, 90 X-Dynamic SE for $65,100, X-Dynamic HSE for $69,600, and 90 X for $83,500.

If you’d like a four-door Defender, the base 110 model starts at $50,500 while the 110 S costs $54,000, both of which use the four-cylinder engine. The six-cylinder versions include the 110 SE for $65,100, 110 X-Dynamic SE for $68,000, 110 X-Dynamic HSE $72,500, a new-for-2022 110 XS Edition for $71,900, and the 110 X for $86,000.

Dropping a V8 engine under the hood puts the Defender within punching distance of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The G-Wagen is the more luxurious vehicle, but it’s far more expensive starting at $131,750. With a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing 416 hp in the base G550 model, it’s less powerful than the Defender as well. Mercedes still offer the G63 AMG variant, which ups the output to 577 hp, but that model starts at $156,450. Compared to the G-Wagen, the Defender is a relative bargain.
