Nothing says you know your Porsches better than a custom-designed suitcase inspired by the 901.
Rich people have never had it so good. How do we know? Because luxury car sales have never been better, and the cool thing about having lots of money, is that you can afford a bunch of cool stuff. Take the world of luxury cars: people of means love to buy into the culture of a brand. The guy with the brand new Ferrari will most likely own a few Ferrari shirts, or perhaps a Ferrari-branded watch. Manufacturer’s love offering little extras, and Porsche is an expert at branding and merchandising. We’ve featured everything from Porsche wristwatches to Porsche-branded Nike sneakers, and now the German sports car brand has teamed up with RIMOWA for an exclusive, limited edition hand-carry case for the Porsche 911.
The carry case, officially known as the RIMOWA x Porsche Hand-Carry Case Pepita, is a limited edition case inspired, and made to fit the trunk of any of the water-cooled 911s, including the 996, 997, 991, and 992. The design of the case borrows styling elements from the very first 911, dubbed the 901 before Peugeot forced a name change, such as the high-gloss handles and strap holders. The leather straps are a throwback to the leather straps used to secure the hoods and trunks of older sports cars. The centerpiece of the case has to be the gold-plated, full-sized Porsche crest which can also be found on Porsche heritage models such as the Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Edition.
The case has a 30-liter capacity (one cubic foot) and features a premium fabric lining with black and white checks of Pepita cloth. The small tag that gives instructions on how to use the locking mechanism has even been printed in yellow to pay tribute to the 911 engine compartment labels. The palladium buckle was inspired by the 911’s seatbelt and to make these Porsche-themed suitcases even more desirable, RIMOWA will only be making 911 of them.
