Two Special Shelby GT500s Coming To The Big Screen

The original Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is an enduring icon, inspiring numerous restomods through the years and with original models fetching massive prices. Last year, two stunning developmental prototypes of the GT500 that had been meticulously restored made their debut and were called “Little Red” and “Green Hornet”.

The latter was the first one to be restored and Little Red was thought to no longer exist until it was found in a field in Texas almost exactly three years ago. Now that both siblings have been reunited and lovingly restored, their unique story is headed for the big screen.

Two hour-long documentaries are set to be released on March 18. They will initially be screened on the FYI channel for A+E Networks, but enthusiasts who miss this can catch it on the History channel on March 21 or on the Barrett-Jackson YouTube channel. The documentaries will tell the story of how Little Red was miraculously discovered, as well as how both prototypes were restored to perfection.

The documentaries will appropriately be titled “The Hunt for Little Red” and “The Legend of the Green Hornet”. Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson, Craig Jackson, actually owns the Green Hornet and spearheaded the effort to locate the second prototype.

“Finding Little Red was the discovery of a lifetime,” Jackson said. “This Shelby prototype has been one of the most sought-after and elusive vehicles in post-war history.” They were so sought-after, in fact, that sheet metal taken from the restoration of the cars was repurposed into stunning wristwatches.

These two sports cars are also the only two notchback Mustangs to carry the Shelby badge, another distinction that sets them apart. Along with the pair of documentaries, which took two years to film, Barrett-Jackson will also share special behind-the-scenes footage related to the two prototypes. These two iconic sports cars are getting exactly the kind of attention they deserve.
