Yes! The Porsche Museum Officially Re-Opening

After almost one year, the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany will officially re-open next week on March 16. It was closed because you know why. And, like all public places in Germany, visitors will need to wear masks to help prevent spreading the coronavirus virus. It’s a very small price to pay in order to experience what’s unquestionably one of the coolest official automaker museums on the planet. The museum’s staff didn’t all just sit at home and do nothing over the past several months but instead took part in several building upgrades.

“For instance, we changed some of the exhibits, undertook modernization work, and installed new interactive stations,” explains Achim Stejskal, the museum’s director.

A few examples include transferring the Porsche 956, which previously hung from the ceiling to the museum’s restoration shop in Weissach which brought the Le Mans winner back to its original condition. Other new museum exhibits include the “Consistent” station showing the evolution of the Porsche 911, a redesigned Multimedia Guide for visitors now features the more powerful Android 8 operating system and fresh audio content for 210 vehicles.

There’s also a new racing simulator with the steering wheel from the 911 GT3 Cup and a revamped photo booth for taking pics in a production-spec Porsche. You know, for souvenir purposes.

Additional major work was done on the museum’s lighting system which now uses half as much energy as it did previously. In general, museum officials didn’t let a crisis go to waste. These were all wish list updates that would have been difficult to complete when the facility is open to the public. The lockdown months provided the perfect opportunity to get many things done.

Those planning to visit will have to register in advance, though that’ll depend on the incidence rate and, quite obviously, get themselves to Germany. Registration can be done on the museum’s official website or by contacting them directly via email or phone.
