Could Toyota’s first mainstream EV challenge the establishment? At this price it might.
Toyota is serious about going all-electric and has gone so far as to announce 16 upcoming EV models, and is even offering free charging to EV owners. As part of this electric crusade, the Japanese automotive giant has just launched the new Toyota bZ4X SUV. The bZ4X was revealed in November of 2021 to much fanfare, and has delivered the goods in our first drive. But one question remained about the bZ4X, and that was whether or not it would be affordable to purchase. We now have the answer as Toyota has published pricing and trims of the newcomer.
The new bZ4X is offered in two grades, XLE and Limited, and will be available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. Pricing for the new bZ4X starts at $42,000 for the entry-level XLE FWD trim. The Limited FWD will cost you $46,700, and the AWD version of the XLE is $44,080. The top of the range Limited AWD sells for an MSRP of $48,780. At the time of launch, the bZ4X is eligible for up to $7,500 in federal tax credit, but unless new legislation passes, it may not be eligible for the full amount for much longer. Importantly, these prices undercut the base Mustang Mach-E which starts at $43,895.
All bZ4X vehicles will be covered by a 36-month/36,000-mile basic new-vehicle warranty, a 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and a no-limitation corrosion warranty. Electronic driving components are covered for eight years or 100,000-miles. A scheduled maintenance plan of two years or 25,000-miles and a three-year roadside assistance plan are also standard.
As for what you get with each trim, the XLE represents the entry-level model and comes standard with bi-LED headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels. The interior features a 12.3-inch touchscreen interface with a six-speaker sound system, a panoramic glass roof, blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone climate control, and adaptive cruise control.
The top of the range Limited adds exterior options such as large 20-inch alloy wheels and funky two-tone paint jobs. The interior is also a more premium space thanks to standard SofTex upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats with an eight-way power driver’s seat, and a leather steering wheel. The Limited is also available with a nine-speaker JBL sound system.
