This Rare Ford GT Heritage Edition Will Fetch A Fortune

Getting on the buying list for the new Ford GT isn’t easy. Before you can place a reservation, you need to be hand-picked by Ford based on your previous history to make sure you’d adequately use the car. As it turns out, Ford may need to check in on some of its GT owners. Originally, Ford planned to build 1,000 examples of the new GT over four years, but high demand prompted the automaker to allocate an additional 350 units.

Even so, the Ford GT will still be a rare sight on the road despite the company’s efforts to choose buyers who’d use it properly. If you didn’t manage to get on the original buying list, a very special example of Ford’s magnificent mid-engine supercar is heading to auction later this month.

This particular 2017 Ford GT is finished in the limited Heritage Edition black and silver-stripe livery inspired by the iconic 1966 Ford GT40 Mark II driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon that famously won the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. As a homage to the original Le Mans racer, the Heritage Edition GT has a number 2 racing graphic on the hood and door. It’s also the 50th example to roll off the production line as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Ford’s Le Mans victory.

Inside, the interior is trimmed in black to match the Heritage exterior with carbon-fiber Sparco seats featuring manual recline, Alcantara-wrapped bolsters, dark stainless matte-painted X-bracing, a six-point harness, and blue seatbelts.

Criminally, this gorgeous GT has only been driven a mere 12 miles. Let’s hope its next owner actually drives it rather than keep it stored to increase its value. Like every Ford GT, the Heritage Edition is powered by a 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 engine paired with a seven-speed paddle-shifted dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Originally, this unit generated 647 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque, but an update increased the output to 660 hp. This very special Ford GT will cross the auction block at the GAA Classic Cars auction in Greensboro, North Carolina, which runs on February 25-27. There’s no auction estimate, but we won’t be surprised if it fetches seven figures.
