The Second Rolls-Royce Boat Tail Is Beautiful Bronze Art

One year ago, Rolls-Royce showed off a bespoke creation called the Boat Tail, which is rumored to cost more than $28 million. Though it rides on the Architecture of Luxury used by the Rolls-Royce Phantom and is powered by the same 6.75-liter V12 engine, the Boat Tail is completely unique in almost every other respect. Rolls-Royce will only build three examples, and after introducing the first of the trio finished in a stunning shade of blue, the British marque is now showcasing the second model.

The car will make its public debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza, Villa d’Este tomorrow, May 21, 2022, but you can ogle it in these new pictures before then. Designed as an homage to the client’s father and family heritage, which originated in the pearling industry, this new Boat Tail features detailing inspired by mother-of-pearl.

To craft this unique color, the client handed the Rolls-Royce Coachbuild Designers four pearl shells from his private collection, which were chosen for their unique color and complexity. These shells inspired the designers to create one of their most unique paint colors ever, featuring a deep blend of oyster and soft rose mixed with large white and bronze mica flakes. The main rose color pairs with a contrasting cognac hood with bronze and gold aluminum mica flakes. Even the famous Spirit of Ecstasy is finished in rose gold.

Like the first Boat Tail, this new car boasts a “butterfly-design” hosting suit at the back, crafted from Royal Walnut veneer that’s inlaid with rose gold-plated pinstripes and a satin-brushed finish. The designers chose Royal Walnut because it will mature over time, gradually mimicking the tonal properties of the cognac paint.

Though Rolls-Royce published 65 photos of the new Boat Tail, none of them give a full look at the bespoke interior. Rolls-Royce says the cabin is wrapped in cognac and oyster leathers paired with Royal Walnut veneer mixed with rose gold and mother-of-pearl accents. The transmission tunnel is crafted from the Royal Walnut veneer with rose gold pinstripes, matching the rear deck. A mother-of-pearl timepiece was provided by the owner from his collection to sit in the dash, and pairs well with the custom gauges.

The first two Boat Tails are completely unique, and we can’t wait to see the final example.
