The possibilities are endless.
In 2021, Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus announced plans to build an all-terrain car called the 008. Our first glimpse at the proposed concept had us salivating. With futuristic dune buggy styling, it looked as if someone had prepared a supercar for the apocalypse, with its sleek bodywork propped up by massive tires and lifted suspension.
The American company has now unveiled the finished product – well, technically. You see, SCG is selling the imposing desert destroyer as a package, not a car. The company provides the body, chassis, and suspension. But the engine and gearbox? The possibilities are endless, notes Jesse Glickenhaus.
“The 008 is a package with instructions and just about everything you need to build your car…we have people that want to put Subaru [or] GM engines in it, [and] people that want to electrify it. You can build whatever you want.” The idea of a 008 powered by an LT2 V8 from a Corvette Stingray sounds rather appealing.

SCG says it “will not and cannot” sell buyers an engine, but does offer gearboxes and wheel/tire options with the 008 kit. Still, what you do get is comprehensive; a complete chassis, body, suspension, fuel system, electronics, vehicle controls, and more form part of the $99,995 Founders Package.
The only thing you need to do is select your ideal engine/transmission combination and build it with the assembly instructions provided. SCG notes the vehicle could potentially be registered for road use as a “home-built” vehicle, “provided that the purchaser assembles the package and completes the process of turning the package into a car.”
It’s set to be a remarkable off-roader, courtesy of independent suspension (front and rear), Fox coilover shocks at each corner, Eibach coil springs, and more. “This is our hope, to make a kit that people can put together and…go off-roading to buy for a much lower price than the other product that we’ve developed and manufactured,” explains Jim Glickenhaus

The company is putting its money where its mouth is and plans to race the 008 in the upcoming Baja 1000 – an event that SCG has enjoyed great success in. Deliveries of the package are expected to commence shortly thereafter. The 008 draws inspiration from former SCG creations, such as the Glickenhaus Boot and the 004 rally car.
As such, the 008 utilizes the rock-swallowing suspension seen on the former and the central driving position (three seats in total), derived from the latter. If you’re interested, reservations are now open. $1,000 puts you on the list for the Founders Package and the company notes that 50% is due when final specs and options are submitted. The rest is required upon delivery.
The near $100,000 price tag is certainly a lot of money but, once complete, the 008 has the potential to be a truly unique road car that can tackle the toughest terrains without breaking a sweat.
