Back in 2018, a Range Rover Sport PHEV also climbed 999 steps at China’s Heavens Gate.

The current-generation Range Rover Sport launched in 2013, which spawned the high-performance SVR variant and the first-ever Range Rover Sport PHEV. Powering the SVR is a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 producing 567 hp and 516 lb-ft, enabling the high-performance SUV to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 176 mph.

The new Range Rover is expected to debut this year and go on sale for the 2022 model year, so its smaller Sport sibling could debut next year. Expect it to be offered with a range of electrified powertrains including a mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery-electric.
