Overfinch has been in the Land Rover modification business since 1975, starting with the first-generation Range Rover. Way back then, the Range Rover was a two-door vehicle aimed at farmers and not the luxury car market. Overfinch, then called Shuler, spotted its potential and developed the first automatic transmission and air suspension for the Range Rover. Overfinch-developed parts also featured heavily in the Range Rover’s 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally win. When the Land Rover Defender took over from the Series models in the 1980s, Overfinch quickly started creating high-performance versions. Now, the British based company is moving into the restomod business, beginning with 12 Defender models and bringing them to the US market.

Overfinch is concentrating on “remastering” vehicles over 25 years old and basing each project around using a modern crate engine and transmission. Each Defender will also come with a 12-month warranty and certification.
“Overfinch Heritage will address a major opportunity to satisfy the demand for restomod Land Rover vehicles in North America,” says Alex Sloane, Vice President of Overfinch North America. “Remastering allows us to create enhancements and proprietary Overfinch upgrades that simply wouldn’t have featured in the classic production car. We intend for our customers to create something truly personal while guiding them to retain the classically British character of the original vehicle.”

Overfinch hasn’t given in-depth details of the 12 models being produced yet but tells us some of the build slots have already been snapped up by existing customers. The first vehicle, a white Defender, has already been completed, and as we can see, it features a new full-leather interior, a modern dash gauge, wooden decking in the truck bed, new wheels, an upgraded front bumper, and a roll bar.
The first 12 restomod vehicles are based around carefully sourced original Defenders, but Overfinch says customers will be able to bring their own vehicles if they meet “the standards required for the intensive remastering process.”
