But only one offers a Hyperscreen.
After Audi just revealed the 2022 e-tron GT, Mercedes-Benz is now in a precarious situation, playing catch up in the electric sedan market. The three-pointed star need not worry too much longer, though, as its flagship electric sedan is hot on the e-tron GT’s tails. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan was first shown in prototype form around one year ago and has since been spotted testing on a few occasions.
Our spy photographers have captured the EQS Sedan out testing once again, this time sporting far less camouflaging than ever before. This can only mean one thing; the EQS Sedan is almost ready to make its grand entrance.
Here’s what we currently know about the EQS Sedan. As the name suggests, the EQS will be similar to the S-Class, though the spy photos show that this new electric model is visually much different than its gasoline counterpart. The lack of camo on the roofline allows us to see the car’s coupe-like roofline and pillarless doors, which look reminiscent of a CLA or CLS. The EQS will rival the upcoming BMW i7 sedan and will also spawn an SUV variant.
Inside, this model will feature Mercedes’ new 56-inch Hyperscreen, which is one of the most impressive displays we’ve seen to date. We expect the EQS to focus on luxury and comfort over performance, meaning it won’t directly rival the Audi e-tron GT or Porsche Taycan.
The Vision EQS Prototype packed two electric motors combining to produce 469 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque, yielding a 4.5-second 0-60 mph. We suspect the production version will be somewhere close to these output figures, and the total driving range is anyone’s guess. Mercedes has already confirmed a spring 2021 reveal, so the EQS can not be far away. Deliveries aren’t expected to begin until 2022, with pricing likely starting well over $100,000.
