Ford has created a unique F-150 for the popular soccer game.

Not long after the new F-150 Raptor was unveiled last week, Ford has announced the new 2021 F-150 is making its video game debut this month. No, it’s not coming to Forza Horizon 4 – at least not yet. Instead, as part of a partnership with video game developer Psyonix, players will be able to drive a virtual version of the new 2021 Ford F-150 with some radical modifications in Rocket League later this month.

If you’re not familiar with Rocket League, the popular online multiplayer game is essentially soccer with jet-powered cars bashing into a giant ball. It’s easy to pick up and play but requires skill to master. Ford’s F-150 design team collaborated with the game’s developer Psyonix to recreate the midsize truck in the game, combining design cues from the regular model and the Raptor to create a truly unique F-150.

Based on the 2021 F-150, the virtual truck replicates its real-life counterpart’s signature C-clamp headlights, rounded wheel arches, drop-down windows, and “F-150” stamped in the tailgate. It also shares cues with the new Raptor such as the aggressive grille with prominent Ford lettering. Unlike the real truck, the Rocket League Edition is fitted with rear rocket boosters in the taillights, custom wheels that light up blue, and green accents on the front bumper, roof, and A-pillar.

“It had to be an F-150 but one that fits within Psyonix’s extreme virtual world pairing soccer and mayhem,” said Ehab Kaoud, chief designer of Ford trucks. “F-150 is already the most popular truck in the real world, and this F-150 Rocket League Edition is poised to be the most popular truck in the gaming world, too. It’s Built Ford Tough meets gaming.”

As well as launching the in-game truck, Ford will sponsor this month’s Rocket League Championship Series Winter Majors, which will include an arena full of billboards and a special F-150 appearing between matches to prepare the pitch. Ford will also sponsor the Ford + Rocket League Freestyle Invitational, a judged competition where players show off their best moves and tricks. The winning player will win a real 2021 F-150.

The Ford F-150 Rocket League Edition will be available to purchase in-game from February 20-28. A chairman decal, two sets of F-150 wheels, F-150 Rocket League Edition engine audio, F-150 boost, and an F-150 player banner will also be included in the bundle.
