A unique piece of American motorsport history is up for sale.

There are few American cars that have the same pedigree as the Shelby Cobra Daytona. This legendary racer, designed by Pete Brock, is known to reach crazy numbers at auctions, and even continuation cars such as the Superformance Shelby Daytona Coupe have topped six figures. So then just imagine how much a Cobra Daytona owned by Carroll Shelby might sell for… Well, wonder no more.

Listed by World Wide Auctioneers, this 1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe CSX 2469 was owned by Shelby himself and is a legendary sports car with rich racing history, including being piloted by some of America’s greatest drivers, including Phil Hill, Derek Hill, John Morton, and Brian Redman.

Chassis number CSX 2469 was purchased from Carroll Shelby by the current owner and includes a title in Shelby’s name. This Daytona Coupe has seen extensive racing across the globe, including FIA-certified outings at Laguna Seca and Goodwood, and legends such as Derek Bell, Derek Hill, John Morton, and Phil Hill have been behind the wheel.

The Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe was first produced in Venice, California, but production soon moved to Carrozzeria Gransport in Modena, Italy, where Peter Brock kept a close eye on each build. Legend has it that the car took only 90 days to design. The Daytona Coupe was built specifically to take the fight to Italian rivals such as the Ferrari 250 GTO and helped Shelby American become the first American manufacturer to win an FIA international Championship for the GT class in 1965.

This example packs its original 4.7-liter V8 engine with individual throttles, and the classic blue and white exterior design with the number 98 proudly plaster across the car. The side-exit exhaust pipes are a prerequisite. The interior features a thin-rimmed wood steering wheel, alloy pedals, and classic analog switches and dials. Worldwide Auctioneers does not list a price on its website, but you can expect a price way beyond that of the current most expensive Shelby offering, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
