Watch The New 911 GT3 Let Rip Around The Ring

Porsche has finally unveiled its long-awaited 911 GT3, and it’s spectacular. The rear-engined supercar now offers 502 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque, with that 4.0-liter flat-six happy to sing its song all the way to 9,000 rpm. And as a car built for enthusiasts, the latest GT3 comes with the availability of a six-speed manual gearbox, although a seven-speed PDK is standard. It’s also got a stunning new swan-neck rear wing, but the news that really matters is how fast it goes around the infamous Nurburgring. With a time of under seven minutes, it’s faster even than the 991 GT3 RS. Wanna see how that time is achieved? Watch this.

The official time recorded is 6:59.927, and we have no doubt that when a new RS debuts, it’ll go even quicker still. Watching videos like these really highlights just how skilled and committed these racing drivers are and also explains why you can see a carbon-shelled racing seat in the driver’s position rather than the OEM seat you’ll see in the production car. Although this seems like a non-factory modification, the speeds achieved in straight lines and around corners certainly warrant adding another layer of safety for the driver. And speaking of speeds, the GT3 reaches some astounding heights. At one point, we see the car hit 286 kph. In our money, that’s a smidge over 177 mph.

The car in the video is using the standard PDK dual-clutch transmission, which means that it’s capable of doing the benchmark 0-60 mph sprint in just 3.2 seconds. Top speed is similarly impressive at 197 mph, but as with any other GT3, trick suspension is what makes this car so special. No parts are shared with the regular 911 Carrera, and when you see how stable the GT3 is around some of the Nordschleife’s more harrowing bends, you can see that all that engineering and fine-tuning hasn’t gone to waste. We can’t wait to have a go in one and experience this brilliant masterpiece ourselves. Just don’t expect us to be as good with the car as the racing driver above.
