Now we can hear McLaren’s new V6 hybrid powertrain sing.

This week marked the debut of the awe-inspiring McLaren Artura. While the design shares similarities with other McLaren models, its importance can’t be downplayed as the company’s first series-production high-performance hybrid.

We’ve poured over the specifications detailing the car’s phenomenal performance and technology and drooled over the design in McLaren’s official photos. Now, for the first time we get to see the Artura in action as McLaren has released a video showing the hybrid supercar on the move. We get to see the Atura tear up the track to demonstrate its performance and navigate twisty roads to showcase its sporty handling.

“Every race we’ve won. Every road we’ve driven. Every drop of our expertise has brought us to this moment,” the video captions read. McLaren also describes the Artura as “the full force of McLaren” and “the next-generation supercar.”

As for where the Artura fits in the model lineup, McLaren has confirmed it won’t be a direct replacement for McLaren’s Sports Series cars like the 570S, 570GT, and 600LT so it will likely be sold under McLaren’s new Supercar class. McLaren’s Sports Series class, on the other hand, will bow out with the limited-edition 620R. As well as watching the Artura get a workout on the road and track, we also get to see its new hybrid powertrain sing.

For the first time, McLaren’s new supercar is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. Paired with an electric motor, this setup generates 671 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. 0-62 mph takes just three seconds, while 0-124 mph is achieved in just 8.3 seconds. From a standstill, the Artura will rocket to 186 mph in 21.5 seconds before maxing out at 205 mph.

Based on Europe’s WLTP cycle, the Artura also offers an electric-only range of 19 miles. Deliveries for the McLaren Artura will start in Q3 2021 with a starting price of $225,000 in the US. We can’t wait to tame it on a track.
