  3. Watch A Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Spin 69 Donuts On Ice

The car’s safety systems were not happy about the attempt, but a world record was set.

If you’ve ever looked at the list of Guinness World Records and wondered why there are categories for almost everything, we’ve got another to add to the pile. The Porsche Taycan has just set another record, this time for doing the most consecutive donuts on ice in an electric vehicle. Terry Grant set the record in a stock Taycan on a frozen lake in Sweden.

The attempt took place on February 3 this year at the 2022 Race of Champions event in Sweden. A veteran stunt driver, Grant put in 69 spins, setting the record for consecutive donuts on ice in an EV. A stock Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo with winter tires was used for the event.

The stunt looks cool, but it wasn’t as easy as it appears. Grant had to spin the car while the car was actively trying not to be spun. Once covered with snow and ice, the Taycan’s safety systems believed the vehicle had been in a wreck and shut it down. Grant also noted that the rough ice surface made it hard to maintain concentration during the attempt. He said the tires started wearing through the ice, making it difficult to hold the skid.

Dozens of donuts in an EV is impressive, but it’s not the Taycan’s first brush with Guinness World Records. Earlier this year, a man drove from Los Angeles to New York City in a Taycan.

He covered the 2,834-mile journey with a total charge time of 2 hours, 26 minutes, setting the shortest charging time to cross the US in an electric car. Another attempt saw a Taycan Cross Turismo travel from Michigan to Pikes Peak in Colorado for the record of the greatest altitude change achieved by an electric car.

As electric vehicles grow in popularity, so have the number of records associated with them. The first EV in a Forza video game, for example, was the 2014 Spark-Renault SRT-01E Formula E car, while the largest parade of EVs ever recorded took place in Germany in 2015, with 576 vehicles in attendance.
