Will US pricing be similar?

Volkswagen has been working very hard on electrification and design as it aims to bring Tesla down, and the latest reveal from the German automaker is the ID.Buzz electric van. As you may already know, the bus that was revealed in March is destined for European shores, and American buyers will have access to a longer-wheelbase model with more power and possibly even some unique features. The regular version has some pretty cool features too, and VW expects that this new offering will be extremely popular. Of course, part of its potential success depends on what it costs, and now Volkswagen has finally revealed pricing for the first-ever ID.Buzz.

The news comes via Volkswagen of Germany and tells us that the five-seater ID.Buzz Pro will start at €56,606.30 including the nation’s environmental rebate. The price is €64,581.30 without it. The former figure translates to $59,548.41 in our money (at the time of writing), while the latter works out to $67,948.12. The utilitarian ID.Buzz Cargo is naturally cheaper, with a starting MSRP of €54,430.60 before any rebates and an attractive €46,455.60 with the rebate. That’s $57,268.23 and $48,877.47, respectively. But what if you don’t want to buy?

Well, VW is also offering leasing arrangements, with installments starting at €661 ($695.46) for the Cargo van and €693 ($729.13) for the Pro. These quotes are based on a 36-month term with no more than 10,000 kilometers per year (around 6,214 miles). Note that European pricing includes 18-20% Value Added Tax (VAT), so our asking prices should be considerably better, especially with the US Federal Tax Credit.

The ID.Buzz is constructed on the same platform as the Volkswagen ID.4 sold here in the States and the European-spec model is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack with a gross energy rating of 82 kilowatt-hours (77 kWh net). This system provides the funky bus with 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque, all of which powers the rear axle. A top speed of 90 mph is rated, but if these figures seem a little disappointing, our three-row model should ease your concerns – with more length and weight, we’ll also get more power. In addition, VW has specifically confirmed that “more battery versions with various power output levels are expected to follow in 2023.”
