The new electric van will unite with legendary VW camper vans.

The upcoming Volkswagen ID.Buzz is one of the most charming new electric vehicles to hit the market, and production of the passenger version of the van began in June. It is a perfect reincarnation of the classic VW Bus but with contemporary design and a fully electric powertrain to cart you, your family, and all their stuff around in comfort. After the capable but much more conservative ID.4, the ID.Buzz is proof that the Germans can let their hair down sometimes.

In light of the excitement surrounding the ID.Buzz, the VW Bus Festival – known officially as the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ VW Bus Festival 2023 – planned for June next year in Hannover is set to attract over 100,000 visitors. From the classic and much-loved T1 to the new ID.Buzz, it will be the biggest meet of its kind anywhere in the world.

VW pointed to its 2007 Bus Festival – the most recent one to be held – as being one of the greatest events of this kind to ever take place, and the 2023 iteration will take it all to another level. The brand welcomes owners of historic VW camper vans and Microbus models to take their place alongside the new ID.Buzz and Multivan being sold by the brand. For 29 euros (or about $29), festival goers can bag themselves a pitch for any VW Bus or similar VW vehicle for the whole weekend, along with access to the various exhibitions and other event highlights.

“This interaction between all the diverse VW Bus models of all eras is at the soul of the community,” said Lars Krause from Volkswagen. “We’re delighted that 16 years after the last festival, this globally unique automotive phenomena will again be given a stage in 2023.”

VW said that the early response from various VW Bus clubs has been “overwhelming”, with more queries received than there are available vehicle pitches. Ever since the ID.Buzz was launched, Americans have shown their enthusiasm for it in much the same as European fans. In the USA, a long-wheelbase version of the ID.Buzz will be sold and it promises plenty of space in its feature-packed cabin. We expect dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants to be pretty quick.

The VW Bus Festival takes place from 23 to 25 June, 2023.
