  3. Valentino Balboni Launches Lightweight Exhaust For Lamborghini Huracan STO

As if it wasn’t loud enough already.

Valentino Balboni started out at Lamborghini when its founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini, was still around. He ultimately became the chief test driver for the company and was said to have driven 80% of all Lamborghinis ever made in his 40-year career. In celebration of his achievements, the first-ever rear-drive Lamborghini Gallardo was created. But even after retirement, the love affair with Lambos continued and the man created a self-named company that would tune these cars and make them sound better. That has now led him to the spectacular Lamborghini Huracan STO, which may never have existed were it not for that unique Gallardo, and as usual, he’s making it lighter and louder.

The VB brand, as the tuning company is commonly known, has already created spectacular titanium systems for the Aventador Super Veloce, the Aventador S, the Aventador SVJ, and even the final iteration, the Aventador UItimae. Now, its attention turns to the “baby Lambo” for the first time ever. The Huracan STO is already a race car for the road and as such, it’s bleeding loud. But with this new system, the excitement gets turned up to 11.

“Weighing an impressive total of just 14.2 pounds, the result is the state-of-the-art first hybrid Inconel-titanium exhaust ever for a V10 engine. The exhaust itself is entirely crafted in titanium [while] the bellows are made of Inconel. The physical limitation to weld titanium with Inconel has resulted in a revolutionary linking design with two titanium billet-cut links on each pipe. Last but not least, our in-house design with two separated banks is maintained for power and torque optimization.” This is certainly something special, then.

Balboni himself admits that “this exhaust has been the most challenging and fascinating one so far to design,” citing the “extremely limited volume available at the back of the STO.” Yet the finished product bolts up with no fabrication required, and considering how it looks alone, we’re willing to bet that this is going to be one of the finest upgrades you could possibly apply to your STO. As is typical for the tuner, VB will only produce 40 units of the exhaust for worldwide distribution, each of which is made in Italy and comes delivered in “a highly exclusive flight case.” We have no word on cost, but when your Inconel-titanium exhaust is presented in such a way, the price is guaranteed to be high.
