This Radical Chevy Corvette Could Fetch Six Figures

The first-ever mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette continues to dominate the spotlight, but the older and classic Corvette market remains alive and well. Hundreds of premium and limited edition used examples come up for auction every year and this won’t change anytime soon. But every now and then an extremely interesting old Vette pops up that sparks a fair amount of debate. This is one of those cases.

Set to cross the stage at the Mecum Auction Glendale event next month, this 2004 Corvette has undergone a classic Chevy Corvette Nomad wagon concept-style conversion, done by Advance Automotive Technologies. Supposedly, just six examples were built. The Corvette Nomad concept was revealed way back in 1954 at a time when Chevy was experimenting with the potential possibilities of its then-new Corvette roadster.

The Nomad nameplate was first used in 1958 for the wagon body style version of the Bel-Air and Impala. Unfortunately, the seriously cool Corvette Nomad never reached production.

With its red-on-red color scheme, this C6 has had extensive bodywork done with custom-built front and rear ends and plenty of chrome detailing. The C6’s exposed headlights have been replaced by rounded units with metal screens and orange turn signals. There’s also a vintage chrome bumper. Even the sides have chrome accents reminiscent of the old Nomad concept. The rear end is even more retro than the front thanks to 50s style taillights, vertical chrome trim, and chrome-covered bumpers.

The interior was left mostly stock with one exception: there’s now a more generous cargo area behind the driver and passenger. Under the hood lies an unaltered 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 with 350 horsepower, paired to a six-speed manual transmission. This car’s odometer reads just over 11,000 miles. Unlike most low-mileage C6s out there, this one is expected to cost quite a bit more.

While a used 2006 Corvette C6 in good condition can easily be purchased for around $20,000, this rare Vette was previously listed at nearly $130,000 – more than double the price of a base 2021 C8 coupe. Sure, it’s special and the custom body is very cool, but this Corvette Nomad definitely isn’t for everyone.
