It’s a pretty place to be.
The Hyundai Kona is a practical, striking, and efficient little crossover that has only been made more awesome by last year’s arrival of a spicy N version. This sporty version is quick enough to challenge the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Clearly, the Hyundai Kona is a great vehicle, but it will soon be due for an update, as everything eventually is. We’ve once before captured spy shots of the new model, but the vehicle we saw was covered in loads of restrictive camouflage. We also barely got a glimpse at the cabin, but that has changed with new spy shots that hit our inbox this week.

It appears that the cabin of the updated Kona is getting the same sort of screens as those of the Ioniq 5 EV, meaning a pair of 12-inch displays alongside each other, with the touchscreen for infotainment sitting atop the HVAC vents. This will bring the Kona’s cabin more in line with those of the brand’s other offerings. Speaking of familial styling choices, we have more of the exterior of the Kona too, where Hyundai’s split headlights will make a return once more. Sadly, the extensive camouflage remains, but the existence of a tailpipe confirms that this was the gasoline-powered Kona. The electric model – reportedly internally codenamed SX2e – will likely be spied here soon enough, but seeing a Kona without any camo is likely still some way off.
Not much else is evident yet, but the camouflage can’t hide that the Kona will have a practical hatch that features a low opening to make loading a breeze. Split taillights are likely to again feature here, and the eventual arrival of an N Line model has been confirmed, so the little crossover will get more aggressive styling cues in time. At this point, the continued existence of a full N model has not been confirmed, but the regular Kona is only expected to be revealed in 2023, so it’ll be a long while yet before any information can be validated.
