This Is Mercedes-AMG’s Answer To The BMW M3 Wagon

The all-new Mercedes C-Class debuted just a few weeks ago, but testing has already started on hotter AMG performance variants. Mercedes has been caught working on the new AMG C53 that will replace the C43 and rival the BMW M340i and Audi S4. Moving up the range, the new C63 will be AMG’s answer to the BMW M3.

We’ve already seen prototypes of the upcoming C63 Sedan, but now our spies have spotted the new C63 wagon undergoing testing for the first time preparing to battle the upcoming M3 Wagon. The prototype is fully camouflaged to disguise the design, but we have a good idea of what it will look like now that the regular C-Class has debuted.

Like other AMG models, the C63 Wagon sports the performance division’s signature Panamericana grille. The front bumper also has larger air intakes, but the camouflage does a good job of disguising it. It can’t hide the wagon’s wider side sills, however, and the quad exhaust with square tailpipes indicates this is the top-of-the-range C63.

We don’t get a look at the interior, but the regular C-Class gives us an idea of what to expect. As standard, the new C-Class comes equipped with an 11.9-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, which will carry over to the C63 wagon.

As for the powertrain, the new AMG C63 will be powered by an electrified 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivering around 500 horsepower, replacing the current car’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. It’s not known when the new Mercedes-AMG C63 Sedan and Wagon will debut, but they will most likely break cover either later this year or early next year.

Sadly, the C63 wagon has never been sold in the US, and the new model is unlikely to break this tradition. This isn’t the only new high-performance wagon that’s forbidden fruit, because the new M3 Wagon won’t be going on sale here either.
