We’ve never heard of such exotic materials being used in a cabin before.
We share a number of tuning stories here on CarBuzz, and often, we wish we hadn’t. Some tuning conversions are so terrifyingly hideous that you wish you’d never seen them. But when Carlex Design tells us about a new build, we just know it’s going to be good. This is an interior design specialist that understands that the most vital ingredient in any build is subtlety, and while some are still offensive, most of its work is gorgeous. Rather than trying to make it obvious that it has modified a car, Carlex refinishes a car in such a way that it looks better than OEM, and now it has applied that trademark restraint and craftsmanship to the exquisite Ferrari 812 GTS.

Carlex has refinished almost all of the interior with simple guidelines: “the new interior was to reflect the classic vintage-inspired style and the sporty character of the unique car.” To achieve this, Carlex has sourced kudu (an African antelope) leather, which it says is unique, durable, and soft. The exotic leather also “ages beautifully and stylishly and its natural scars and scratches give it a vintage look.”
The caramel hue of the leather is a perfect contrast to the demure gray shade of the car’s body, but it is accented with soft black leather from a buffalo, “decorated with unique seams, laser-engraved motifs, and metal badges.” All plastic trimmings are now gloss black, while the exterior is only slightly altered with decals.

Carlex has once again shown that a little goes a long way, in that small and subtle changes to a car’s appearance often have a more profound effect on enhancing the overall experience than extreme styling choices that change the character of the car. We think the 812 GTS is one of the best-looking grand tourers out there, and its exterior needs no new wheels or a suspension drop. It also needs no performance upgrades; the 812 GTS is powered by a 6.5-liter V12 that generates 789 horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque, enough to reach a top speed of over 210 mph.
