The perfect ride for the dictator with style.

The automotive world is shifting its focus to electric vehicles, and this push is being supported by climate activists, celebrities, and even our top leaders. President Joe Biden recently announced that he plans to replace the current government fleet with electric cars, which means the presidential limousine will also go electric for the first time ever. Presidential limos of old have always been lumbering, gas-guzzling behemoths, and they hold a certain charm, especially when they belong to dictators. We recently covered Colonel Gaddafi’s absolutely ridiculous Maybach 57, and now Auto Leitner, the same company who sold the Libyan revolutionary’s car, is now offering a 1975 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman.

The Mercedes-Bens 600 was favored by politicians such as Idi Amin and apartheid president F.W. de Klerk, and this example has all the same old-world “charm” but has been rebuilt to feature all the comforts of a modern Maybach.

Various new parts on the car were specially developed by Maybach for this car, such as the glass dimmable panoramic roof, heated and cooled seats, and Swarovski diamonds in the ceiling moldings. This Merc 600 Pullman also features modern tech such as a large retractable DVD screen and a surround sound system, but let’s not forget the standard flagpole holders. Those in the back also get the luxury of folding work tables and an intercom system.

This rebuild, which started in 2007 and lasted until 2014 was so thorough that even Mercedes-Benz Classic and the Daimler AG development department were involved. According to Auto Leitner, the total investment into this car amounted to an astonishing €3,000,000 (approx. $ 3.6 million). The car retains its original M100 6.3-liter V8 which delivers around 250 hp, enough to catapult this lumbering edifice to sixty in about ten seconds. Auto Leitner is selling this old lady for $2,571,774 with only 1,000 miles on the odometer. This blast from the past might be cool, but an all-electric limo will crush it in a drag race.
