  3. The Mercedes-AMG Vision Is Almost Here

And it promises big things.

Mercedes-AMG is unfortunately moving away from big bi-turbo V8 engines, scaling down on engine size, and in some cases even electrifying its range of potent German sports cars. In a sign of the times, Mercedes-AMG has started offering high-performance versions of all-electric vehicles such as the Mercedes-AMG EQE, and the brand has plans to release many more performance-focused vehicles in the near future.

Mercedes-AMG recently teased a svelte-looking EV concept on social media named the Vision AMG. This new machine looks similar in shape to the Vision EQXX concept car which recently broke the world record for the longest EV range, but with only two doors and a sleeker shape. Now Mercedes-AMG has released more teasers of the concept that’s due to show its face on Thursday, 19 May, and we’re drooling.

Mercedes-AMG has been planning a range-topping performance EV ever since the all-electric SLS, and the new car promises a fully dedicated platform, and a clear picture of Mercedes-AMG’s electric performance goals and strategies. The new teasers show off a slippery shape that should come close to matching the Vision EQXX’s insanely low drag coefficient of 0.17, but with its coupe body-styling, we expect to see a more aggressive car that leans more towards Mercedes-AMG’s macho design language.

In terms of performance and power outputs, it is still too early to tell what the new Vision AMG will bring to the table, but it will certainly be more than the 200-odd horsepower offered in the ultra-efficient Vision EQXX. The Vision AMG will have to battle it out with all sorts of EV performance vehicles, including the Tesla Model S, and even smaller, but no-less potent competitors such as the Rimac Nevera. Mercedes-AMG has been extremely tight-lipped about this new car, and while they say the Vision AMG will start production some time in 2025, all we can do is wait until Thursday to get a clearer picture of this very important model.
