  3. TEASED: New Ford EV Coming Next Month

Ford’s EV revolution is well underway.

Outside of America, vans are a huge part of the workforce. Here, we use trucks. But anywhere west of Point Udall (America’s easternmost point), vans are king. That said, we get our share here, and Ford will even sell you an RV-converted Transit. American interest in them continues to build, hence the anticipation for passenger vans like the Volkswagen ID.Buzz.

Recently, Ford teased another addition to its commercial electric range, which already boasts models like the E-Transit Cargo Van and the F-150 Lightning Pro. The teased vehicle takes the form of a new Ford Tourneo Custom, only this time it’s gone fully electric.

Ford Pro, the Blue Oval’s commercial vehicle arm responsible for models like the Transit, announced the newly electrified Tourneo will debut on May 9, 2022. The van will be the first of four new electric vans similar to existing models in the brand’s LCV lineup, all four of which will be in production by 2024.

Production of the E-Transit, which is one of three current Ford EVs sold in America, only started last month. Clearly, Ford is committed to aggressively expanding its electric LCV offerings both in America and in Europe. Ford also said that the model is a “key milestone” in its march towards zero emissions for all Ford vehicle sales in Europe. The brand is aiming for carbon neutrality across the European market by 2035.

Teaser images show a new lightbar for the Tourneo EV, a hallmark of EV design at the moment. Given the lightbar, we anticipate a new face for the electric van to help it stand out from the rest of Ford’s commercial lineup. Around back, we can also see that Ford has updated the rear fascia and taillights, though to what extent is still unknown.

The model is replacing the current Tourneo, and will also serve as the base for one of Volkswagen’s LCVs, the Transporter. There’s clearly a lot of platform sharing going on between the two brands at the moment. Specs are a huge unknown at the moment, but we’re betting they’ll be significantly better than the current hybrid Tourneo, which pumps out 124 hp and 283 lb-ft of torque. We’ll have to wait for the debut to find out.
