A confirmed reveal date accompanied leaked teaser images.
It’s no secret: The BMW M4 is getting a hardcore CSL version. Former boss of BMW M and current Overall Vehicle Development boss Markus Flasch essentially confirmed this in an interview late last year, saying that the car is an “open secret.” However, he would not tell us when the car would be revealed. But then in March of this year, a rumor started doing the rounds that the M4 CSL would be revealed in May. It’s now turned out that this rumor was true, as BMW has confirmed the global premiere of the car will take place at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, from May 20-22. Oh, and at the same time, BMW M’s Facebook page uploaded the below teasers in a now-deleted post.

Let’s focus on BMW’s appearance at the prestigious event first. This will see the brand showcase its own judging class called “50 years of mean machinery – BMW M cars and their ancestors.” Along with BMW Group Classic exhibits, BMW says that it will show off the all-new i7 electric sedan and will premiere “the eagerly anticipated BMW M4 CSL.” This is the first time that BMW has explicitly confirmed the M4 CSL name, and even the car’s existence, for that matter. So what can we expect? Well, spy shots have already confirmed that the lightweight sports car will get unique carbon fiber seats, the silhouette of which can be seen through the rear window.

Sticking with the rear, the classy ducktail rear spoiler first seen on the legendary E46 M3 CSL is making a comeback. We also see that, like the F82 BMW M4 GTS, unique taillights, likely with OLED technology, will help further set this special edition apart. Moving to the front, the design cue first shown on the headlights of the fantastic M5 CS makes a return here, with yellow LED daytime running lights calling to mind both motorsport and its past. An aggressive front spoiler will be joined by unique grille accents. Finally, we can see that the hood badge is the retro one that all M cars can be equipped with in this, the brand’s 50th-anniversary year. We can’t wait to learn more, and thankfully, the wait is finally coming to an end.
