Bigger changes will be found under the hood.
In contrast to South Korea’s model, America’s Kia Stinger was left unchanged for the 2021 model year. This will change for the 2022 model, however, as the sports sedan will be receiving a comprehensive update. Ahead of its debut, Kia has given us a first look at the 2022 Stinger coming to the US. Previewed in a teaser image focusing on the Stinger’s new LED headlights, the 2022 Kia Stinger will boast “more power, more technology and a refined design” and will “push the envelope yet again,” according to Kia.
We’re expecting styling cues from Korea’s refreshed Stinger to carry over to its American counterpart, including an updated tiger-nose grille, tweaked daytime running lights with new daytime running lights, and full-width taillights. Kia’s new brand logo will also adorn the front.
Admittedly, the styling changes are subtle, but Kia has also done some tinkering under the hood. According to a recent report, the Stinger’s base 2.0-liter engine will be replaced by a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, up from 255 hp and 260 lb-ft in the current 2.0-liter four-pot. This also makes the entry-level Stinger more powerful than the 255-hp BMW 330i.

As before, the range-topping GT2 is expected to use a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 pumping out 368 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. More changes will be found inside, as the interior will reportedly be upgraded with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a new 4.2-inch digital gauge cluster. These changes will come at a cost, though. The 2022 Kia Stinger will reportedly carry an MSRP of $36,090, making it around $3,000 more expensive than the 2021 model and even more expensive than the Genesis G70.
Kia will lift the wraps off America’s 2022 Stinger on March 16 at 1 PM EST. Hopefully, this will give the struggling sports sedan a new lease of life, because the Stinger’s sales have left a lot to be desired since it launched in 2017.
