Turning the Longtail into a true hypercar.

Asking for more power than the 755 horses produced by the McLaren 765LT is a bit like demanding more luxury from the Rolls-Royce Phantom or asking that Ford increase the dimensions of the F-450 Super Duty because it isn’t quite big enough.

Still, there are people out there asking questions that nobody else could conjure up, and Hennessey is a perfect example. It’s this audaciousness that’s given us 1,000-hp trucks and outrageous hypercars with almost double that power. Now, Hennessey has revealed a 1,000-hp upgrade for the McLaren 765LT.

The stock 765LT is already violently quick, requiring just 2.7 seconds to reach 60 mph. However, when put under the spell of the Hennessey Performance Engineering team, the supercar will now hit 60 mph in just 2.1 seconds, a massive drop of 0.6 seconds, making it the quickest McLaren by Hennessey yet.

Known as the HPE1000 upgrade, the package includes an ECU recalibration, high-flow air filters, and a stainless steel downpipe. Hennessey throws in branded exterior emblems, dash and engine plaques with the serial number, and the installation of it all. The tuner will also provide “all necessary gaskets and fluids”, along with a chassis dyno calibration.

Company founder and CEO John Hennessey described the modified McLaren’s increased performance as “just nuts,” and we’re not about to disagree with that assessment. To match or surpass its 0-60 time, you’ll need more than just good ol’ gas. Vehicles capable of similar performance include the all-electric Tesla Model S Plaid or the upcoming Koenigsegg Gemera with its hybrid powertrain.

“The new 765LT is underrated from the factory. We tested it on our in-house dyno and it delivered about 765 HP – at the rear wheels. This means it’s producing closer to 865 bhp in bone stock form,” said Hennessey. But if that’s not enough, the HPE1000 upgrade will set you back $24,950. Considering the 765LT’s starting price of around $300k, that seems like decent value.
