Pricing Reveals Ford F-150 Rattler Is The Off-Road Bargain Truck Of The Year

• The Rattler pack adds new aesthetic updates and other bits borrowed from the FX4
• The new trim level will be available on 2023 model year trucks

In March, we called the new Rattler trim level on the Ford F-150 a “value-driven off-roader.” Back then, we didn’t have pricing, only Ford’s word on its cost-cutting offering. Now, thanks to a leaked pricing sheet for 2023 MY trucks, we do. And we can confirm that the Rattler is one cheap off-roader wrapped in an F-150-shaped package.

The document from Ford was a detailed pricing list breakdown of the F-150’s various trim levels. At a time when off-road focused trucks and SUVs from Ford are at a premium, it’s nice to see a new off-roader that’s built for the average buyer.

The Rattler can be identified with special badging on the fender vents and great aesthetic updates. That includes bronze trim accents with unique stitching on the seats, as well as a sweet snakeskin/houndstooth pattern in a nice shade of bronze. We still don’t know if you’ll be able to change up the interior at all. However, the truck is available to order in Antimatter Blue, Rapid Red TriCoat, Oxford White, Agate Black, and more. All that isn’t worth much without real serious mechanical bits, however.

Ford gives the Rattler new skid plates, a locking e-diff at the rear, hill descent control, and new wheels with A/T tires. Some of these bits will sound familiar, as they come right off Ford’s FX4 F-150.

Still, all that for right about $1,495 is an insane value. Pick any option listed above and it’d cost you far more than $1,495, especially more meaningful mechanical upgrades like wheels, tires, and the diff. That’s doubly true when you consider other Ford offroaders, the Raptor and Tremor, which start at $52,235 and $68,675 respectively. Then there is the $110K Raptor R.

To spec a Rattler, buyers need to order a SuperCab F-150 with an engine other than the base V6 with the XL High package. We hopped on Ford’s configurator and did the math. If you order a stripped-down SuperCab with the prerequisites, your F-150 Rattler should start at around $42,690, a far cry cheaper than even the Tremor F-150.
