The EV will cover five continents over the next two years to educate and help underprivileged people.
Porsche is best known for making practical supercars with incredible handling and driving dynamics, but it’s not stopping there. The automaker has announced the start of its “Join the Porsche Ridge” initiative, which will see the Taycan EV travel across several continents and countries over the next two years. The automaker’s goal is to make substantive improvements in the lives of the people living in the locations it visits.
The Taycan’s first destination will be Leipzig, Germany, for a Porsche Safari, with central themes of environmental education and preservation. Though Porsche’s headquarters are in Stuttgart, the automaker maintains an off-road park with a nature preserve across the 326-acre site. Porsche says the location houses 100 head of cattle and ponies, three million honey bees, and a whole Noah’s ark full of wild animals like rabbits and deer.

As part of the Volkswagen family, Porsche is surrounded by brands with lofty electrification goals. The sports car manufacturer plans to shift its lineup to 80 percent electric by 2030, and EVs will make up half of its sales by 2025. The Taycan is its first electric vehicle, but we expect an electric Macan crossover by next year. The iconic 911 may never go electric.
Though it’s not stating a 100% EV goal like VW and others, Porsche views this initiative as a way to demonstrate its commitment to helping. “Social engagement is an important part of our Porsche culture. As a socially responsible company, we want to play our part through the ‘Join the Porsche Ride’ initiative,” said Albrecht Reimold from Porsche’s Production and Logistics board.
Eventually, Porsche says the Taycan will traverse five continents and visit numerous destinations on its journey. The automaker’s focus on the drive is on young and disadvantaged people in need of support and educational opportunities with a goal to improve living conditions in a “lasting and sustainable way.” The Taycan’s second stop will be in Switzerland, where Porsche will work on a project to improve inclusion. France and China are also on the calendar for 2022.
Porsche’s global Taycan adventure is notable, but the car has been the subject of numerous high-profile treks to date. Earlier this year, a Taycan Cross Turismo set the Guinness World Record for the greatest altitude change ever by an electric vehicle. Not long after, the car set another record for the shortest time charging for an EV on a coast-to-coast drive of America. The Taycan covered the 2,834-mile journey from Los Angeles to New York with a total charging time of just 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 48 seconds.
