Porsche’s sensational electric sports car is insanely fast.

Porsche is no stranger to setting new records with the Taycan. In 2019, the electric sports car was crowned the fastest four-door electric car at the Nurburgring with a time of seven minutes and 42 seconds. More recently, the Taycan performed the world’s longest drift, sustaining a slide for 55 minutes. And now Porsche can add another 13 new records to its long list of achievements. Last December, Porsche brought a Taycan 4S and a Turbo S to the Brands Hatch racing circuit in the UK, setting 13 separate records.

Behind the wheel of the electric sports cars were Le Mans legend Richard Attwood, former F1 and Porsche racer Jonathan Palmer, 2020 Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion Harry King and 2020 Cayman Islands Porsche Sprint Challenge GB champion James Dorlin.

Porsche spent an entire day smashing records at the circuit, starting at 07:00 and finishing at 20:00. In the ‘electric cars over 1000 kilograms’ category, the Taycan 4S set records for the time taken from a standing start to cover 50 km, 50 miles, 100 km, 500 km, 500 miles and 1000 km, as well as the record for distance covered from a standing start in one hour at 98.192 km (61 miles). In the same category, the Turbo S set new records for the time taken from a standing start to cover 200 km, 100 miles and 200 miles.

It also achieved new records for distance covered from a standing start in three hours (252.356 km/156.8 miles), six hours (450.065 km/279.6 miles) and 12 hours (915.762 km/569.2 miles).

The Taycan 4S sported a specially-designed Salzburg tribute livery the Taycan Turbo S was inspired by the 1984 Porsche 956 Palmer drove to victory during the World Endurance Championship at Brands Hatch. Mirroring the 1000 km of Brands Hatch endurance race in 1970, the records were set during intermittent rain showers, but the Taycan proved to be more than capable during the challenging conditions.

In ideal conditions, the Taycan’s 93.4 kWh battery can be charged from five to 80 percent in 22.5 minutes, which was crucial for the record attempt. The car’s thermal management effectively cooled and heated the high-voltage components and optimized the temperature for charging. In total, the Taycan 4S spent a total of three hours and three seconds entering or exiting the charging area and charging, which was completed over six stops. Each stop lasted around 30 minutes, enabling the cars to charge from around five to 85 percent.
