  3. McLaren Honors Queen Elizabeth II With Platinum Artura

A platinum Corgi would have been cooler.

Queen Elizabeth II is the third-longest reigning royal in history, and in her 70 years on the throne, the 96-year-old monarch has been known to roll around in style. The Queen of England enjoys her fair share of luxury Mercedes-Benz cars, but has recently acquired a taste for SUVs, especially the Bentley Bentayga, and now another car brand is getting into her good graces.

McLaren is celebrating the Queen’s “Platinum Jubilee” with a one-off platinum paint color, and it looks as cold as the looks Her Majesty gives her Corgis when they poop on the royal palace’s carpets.

McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has taken on the task of celebrating the monarch with a stunning Platinum paint color and a special Platinum McLaren badge. The reveal of the bespoke color and badge comes exactly 18 years after the Queen opened McLaren’s global headquarters, the McLaren Technology Center, in Woking, England, and is featured on McLaren’s state-of-the-art Artura hybrid supercar.

McLaren, in partnership with advanced coatings company AkzoNobel , conducted numerous durability and application testing to come up with the perfect hue of Platinum, and after eight days, the unique new color was ready. The end result speaks for itself.

“It has been an honor for MSO to create a new platinum paint in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee this year. This special paint, which will be available for customers to select for years to come, will be a fitting tribute to mark this historic milestone,” said Ansar Ali, Managing Director of McLaren Special Operations, McLaren Automotive.

Just like the Queen herself, this move by McLaren is purely symbolic, and won’t make much of a difference in the greater scheme of things, but it would be awesome if McLaren had the Queen drive that Platinum Artura around the track with the traction control switched off.
