  3. LEAKED: This Is The Porsche 911 Sport Classic Before You’re Supposed To See It

Porsche won’t be too happy about this.

The Porsche 911 is the greatest sports car on the planet, and anybody who disagrees either hasn’t driven one or simply is a snob and has a problem with the car because you can trace its lineage back to the humble Volkswagen Beetle. Either way, you won’t convince us otherwise. But even though a base 911 is brilliant, the little variations in Porsche’s range are exciting to contemplate, especially when they involve old-school styling cues. The 911 Sport Classic from 2009 was such a car, and ever since spy shots of a new version were first captured, Porsche fans have been salivating at the prospect. Nothing official was confirmed until this morning when Porsche’s Instagram account shared some teaser images on its story, but those glimpses are now null as somebody – we won’t explicitly mention names – has leaked the car way ahead of schedule.

Like the car from the Noughties, the 992 Sport Classic is finished in a unique shade of gray balanced by lighter gray racing stripes that run from the front to the rear. The PORSCHE script resides on the profile and is accompanied by a roundel bearing the number 60. The special edition also gets a ducktail rear spoiler and wears Fuchs-style alloy wheels. Elsewhere, the front bumper appears to be getting a new lower spoiler.

Inside, the cabin is adorned in Classic Cognac leather balanced by Pepita (houndstooth) seat centers and door card inserts (oh so cool). Extra glamor is provided by the unique tachometer with green accents and the center marker on the leather-clad steering wheel.

As gorgeous as it looks, what has really got us excited is that the cabin is proudly displaying a manual shifter (reportedly attached to a seven-speed, not a sixer), which leads us to the stuff that the images can’t tell us. As per the leaked post, it appears that the special edition will be powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six producing around 542 horsepower. Best of all, more buyers will be able to experience this particular 911 SC as the production run has increased from 2009 levels of 250 units to an alleged limit of 1,250 units. With carbon fiber composites used to lighten the roof and the hood, this classically styled masterpiece will sell out almost instantly, whatever Porsche decides to charge for it.
