Over 1,000 cars were gathered to set this unusual world record.

The Porsche Taycan has been smashing world records lately. Most recently, the electric sports car set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest indoor speed record of 102.6 mph, which was fast enough to beat the previous 86 mph record set in 2011 by Tanner Foust in a Ford Fiesta Rallycross car. Porsche isn’t the only manufacturer celebrating a new automotive world record this month, however, because China’s Geely, the parent company of Volvo and Polestar, has set an unusual Guinness World Record.

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, Geely gathered more than 1,000 DIHAO cars on the morning of December 31 at the automaker’s plant in Cixi, Zhejiang, China. A total of 1,339 cars were gathered in total, setting a new Guinness World Record for the world’s largest car mosaic. No, we didn’t know this record existed either.

Out of these, 750 used to form a huge ox’s head symbolizing this year’s Chinese zodiac being the Year of the Ox. The words “2021 Chinese ox” were also created in the mosaic to welcome in the new year.

More than 100 Geely car owners from around the country gathered to participate in the unique record. To qualify for the record, Guinness World Record regulations required the mosaic to be made up entirely of cars with a recognizable pattern. The distance between that cars could also not exceed 7.8 inches and the mosaic needed to cover an area of at least 3,000 square meters (32,291 square feet).

Geely exceeded this by a significant margin, as the area of the mosaic measured 7,070.26 square meters (76,103 square feet), securing the record. Since face masks are no longer required in public areas with open air in Zhejiang, the adjudicator was able to present the certificate to Geely in person.

A spokesperson for Geely Emgrand Official Clubs commented: “At the time of starting a new year, we want to spread the message of having a good heart and embracing the good life.”
