The hypercar manufacturer’s founder has a penchant for tiny, fun sports cars.
When you hear the Koenigsegg name, your mind probably jumps to hypercars with exceptional capabilities, unrivaled innovation, and huge horsepower. Creations like the Koenigsegg Regera have redefined what is possible and as a result, the company’s genius founder, Christian von Koenigsegg, has become a symbol of engineering excellence. With so many groundbreaking inventions in his astonishingly powerful creations, one might assume that CvK is only interested in big numbers. However, the man truly appreciates brilliant engineering and ideas on all levels. In fact, he’s a huge fan of the Mazda MX-5 Miata, one of the simplest sports cars around, so it should come as no surprise that the man took a liking to the fascinating and fantastic Toyota GR Yaris. The example you see here was actually one of his personal cars.

CvK didn’t skimp when ordering his car and specified the Circuit Pack on this Precious Black model, a 2021 model that was first registered in Koenigsegg’s home nation of Sweden in 2020. It appears to have been well used since then, as there are some light stone chips on the front end. Inside, there is light creasing on the seats but no major wear. The mileage is shown as 10,730 kilometers, or 6,667 miles, with CvK and one other previous owner helping add to that tally. Its first service was carried out this month, at 10,675 km, so it’s being well cared for.
With three days remaining on the Collecting Cars auction that ends on Monday 27 June, the listing has attracted 20 bids, with the highest thus far at €31,250 (approximately $32,890). That’s not a bad price to pay for something as special as this, particularly considering its noteworthy provenance; when launched as a new car, the car cost around $43,000 with the Circuit Pack.

It’s no wonder that CvK wanted to experience this compact performance package for himself – the GR Yaris is arguably one of the best small sports cars of the past decade. With a clever all-wheel-drive system, a six-speed manual gearbox, 257 horsepower (in Euro-spec – JDM cars made 268 hp), 272 lb-ft of torque, a total weight of under 2,900 pounds, and two Torsen limited-slip differentials, this thing is exciting enough to tempt even the most horsepower-obsessed supercar owners. We suspect that there will be yet more enthusiasts who will be itching to get their hands on this gem just to experience it, and if we were in Sweden, we’d be among them.
For American fans, you’ll have to settle for the Toyota GR Corolla which will be making its way stateside with the same epic powertrain but even more power.
