  3. Jeep’s Jurassic Park Package For Wrangler And Gladiator Is Surprisingly Cheap But Extremely Limited

by Gerhard Horn Movies & TV

It’s time to work on that Jeff Goldblum impersonation.

Jeep’s Graphic Studio is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Jurassic Park with the introduction of a limited-edition graphics package meant to transform the JL Wrangler or Gladiator into a near-replica of the YJ famously featured in the film. Yep, that’s right, older millennials, you can finally order an official graphics pack directly from Jeep, and yes, the first movie that gave you night terrors is 30 years old.

You have to rush, however. Two packages are available, and each is strictly limited to 100 units. The packages can be installed on any 2018 to 2024 Jeep Wrangler (including the popular Wrangler 4xe) and 2020 to 2023 Gladiator. Each package will be individually numbered from 00 to 99.

Package 1 includes the graphics and a 3D-printed T-Rex shifter insert but not a transfer case insert. It retails for $550 and includes Jurassic Park graphics for the doors, hood, side hood (model specific), swing gate, and fender vents. Package 2 costs $650 and includes all of the above, plus a textured Grassy Island transfer case shifter insert.

We call it a near-replica because there are several differences between the movie car and a Wrangler or Gladiator equipped with this package. The most obvious difference is the non-existence of the Gladiator in 1993 when the movie can out, but we’ll let it slide. The YJ (first to use the Wrangler name) infamously had square headlights, a design feature that Jeep dropped when it introduced the TJ in 1996 to keep Wrangler fanboys from rioting in the streets in front of its headquarters.

The YJ in the film was also a Sahara, and it didn’t have model designation stickers on the hood.

Still, the connection is quite apparent, and people won’t mistake the livery for anything but a reference to the OG Jurassic Park Jeep. One minor niggle, however. The graphics package is for car 18, the movie’s least exciting unit (This is the kind of helpful information you get when the office movie nerd writes about cars). The unit that got all the action was number 10, which you can buy from Hot Wheels with a tiny Jeff Goldblum in the back.

“This year marks three decades since the 1992 Jeep Wrangler YJ Sahara was featured in the original Jurassic Park film, and since that time, it’s been remarkable to see the cultivation and evolution of both the Jeep brand and the Jurassic World franchise around the world,” said Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America. “This exclusive Jurassic Park Package gives fans and Jeep brand enthusiasts alike the chance to make their Jeep 4×4 vehicle unique, reflecting both their personality and pride of ownership.”

While it’s true that the YJ Wrangler is the first and, therefore, the best Jurassic Park car ever, the later movies received some sweet product placement money from Mercedes-Benz, who provided vehicles for all the films after the original. Merc’s first SUV debuted in Jurassic Park: The Lost World, though it vastly oversold the humble SUV’s abilities.

If you’re interested in the graphics package, head directly to Jeep Graphic Studio online store and place an order.

Each package comes with a five- or seven-year guarantee (depending on the pieces) against UV damage and graphic peel. Along with your order, you will receive installation tools and videos to show you how to do the job at home.
