Ten bucks says you’re not even close.
Hoonigan is great at coming up with simple, yet highly entertaining ideas for YouTube videos and Dyno Everything is the latest series to hit our screens. The concept of the show is simple: find the craziest cars around and throw them on the dyno. Team members make bets on the power figures while the rest of the YouTube community also posts their expert estimations. Last month we covered a wild 2JZ-powered Toyota GR Supra which ended up making 917 horsepower, with most of the Hoonigan guys not even getting close. This time we’re treated to a first-generation Audi R8 with a special treat under the decklid – a supercharger.

In its current form, the Audi R8 is powered by a naturally-aspirated V10 engine in stock form and produces up to 602 horses and 413 lb-ft of torque in quattro configuration. The first-gen R8, which is featured in the video, produced up to 570 hp in its final Competition guise. But the car you see here is no standard R8, and we’re not just talking about the big wing on the back of it. We’ve covered highly modified Audi R8s before, so we know these cars like to make big power, but Mike Tornabene’s 2014 V10 car features all the right goodies to push serious numbers. This car’s V10 engine features a VF Supercharger boosting 6.5 psi and runs on 91 octane fuel. Mike likes to tell people that the car makes 750 hp, but he admits that it’s closer to 720 hp at the crank.

With a supercharger boosting only 6.5 psi, yours truly thinks it will make 610 wheel horsepower. The Hoonigan team’s estimations vary from a low 420 hp, all the way to 670 hp. On the car’s first run, it posts a power output of 573.4 hp and 521.2 lb-ft of torque. Pull number two shows 588.2 hp and 502 .8 lb-ft of torque, and the final run sees the Audi make 595.5 hp. It’s worth noting that this is an AWD car, so drivetrain losses are going to be more significant. At 610 hp, your boy got close.
While it might not be a crazy 2,000-hp build like we’ve seen from many twin-turbo R8s, we still wouldn’t want to dice this anytime soon.
