  3. How Much Power Can This 2JZ-Powered GR Supra Lay Down on A Dyno?

Guess the power figure. It’s that simple. Then let Hoonigan find out.

There are two types of owners in the modified car world: those that overstate their dyno figures and those who love to underquote, and we’ve seen plenty of both. Sometimes car manufacturers like to underquote power figures to flummox the competition and other times owners push their cars to destruction trying to chase a specific number. All we know is that it’s a ton of fun trying to guess what a car will make on the dyno, and YouTube legends Hoonigan have created a new show that shows exactly that. In the first episode of ‘Dyno Everything’, we get to guess what a 2JZ-swapped A90 Toyota Supra makes on the dyno. Let the guessing commence!

In each episode, the chosen vehicle gets three runs to put down as much power as possible, and the person with the closest guess wins. It’s that simple. The very first contestant is this 2020 Toyota Supra that hides a tasty little secret: it has been 2J swapped. This 2JZ-powered Supra, owned by Marc from the Pterodactyl Tactics YouTube channel features a fully-built 2JZ-GTE motor out of a fourth-generation A80 Supra and features a Precision 7675 turbo pushing 28 psi of boost, a set of GSC 278 cams, a Getrag transmission borrowed from an E46 BMW M3, an E92 BMW M3 rear diff, and a flood of E85 fuel.

The owner explains that the car made around 900 wheel horsepower on a smaller 62mm turbo. When it came time for the actual run, Hoonigan’s team predictions range from a low 650 all the way to 1,100 hp. Owner Marc predicts a solid 1,080 hp. On the first run the car makes 545 hp and 414 lb-ft of torque, but the dyno calibration was off, so the car gets another first run. This time the Supra makes 917 hp at the wheels. The final run shows a figure of 898 whp. As the rules state; if you’re over, you lose, which makes the lowball guess of 650 hp the winner according to Hoonigan’s own rules. Dynos are heartbreakers.
