  3. Here’s When The Kia EV9 Arrives In The US

The striking SUV may be a little later to the party than expected.

Kia recently announced that the striking EV9 SUV is set to hit the European market in 2023. Many were surprised by the Korean carmaker’s decision to offer the large electric vehicle across the pond; after all, large SUVs such as the Telluride typically remained exclusive to North America. However, the manufacturer has now given a broad release date for the US market.

Local consumers can look forward to the electric SUV arriving in the second half of 2023, as confirmed by the brand at the New York Auto Show. While that’s still rather vague, at least we now know when to expect the range-topper to hit US soil. Aside from that, Kia is keeping its cards close to its chest and hasn’t revealed anything else about the EV9 as yet.

As a recap, here’s what we know so far. The chunky, angular styling will remain but be toned down for production. The striking suicide doors definitely won’t make it to the road-going SUV; these will likely be too expensive. Set to be the electrified alternative to the massively successful Telluride, rumors suggest a seven-seater derivative will be made available with a spacious third row.

The futuristic interior is built with sustainability in mind but will still be truly luxurious. Instead of the traditional leather and wood pairing, Kia is leaning on recycled materials to provide a premium experience. Vegan leather, reused wool fibers, and even recycled fishnets will be put to use to appease eco-minded consumers. As lovely as they are, the dramatically-styled seats and steering wheel will also make way for more conventional items.

Despite the large dimensions, the EV9 will be no slouch. The 196-inch long Kia will be able to hit 62 mph in around five seconds and travel up to 335 miles between charging. Impressively, the battery-powered SUV can glean 62 miles of range in just six minutes of charging. Underpinned by the same Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) first seen on the EV6, the largest Kia EV yet may make use of a dual-motor setup.

What’s more, it will also debut Kia’s advanced AutoMode autonomous driving technology, which will allow the EV9 to sail down certain highway sections without driver intervention. The EV9 sits at the summit of Kia’s electrification strategy which includes the introduction of the updated Niro range. By 2027, the brand plans to launch a total of 14 vehicles that will cater to the needs of specific markets.
