$1,000 off and free charging is quite the sweetener.

COVID-19 is still hurting the auto industry through shutdowns and chip shortages. The all-new Ford Mustang Mach-E, the automaker’s first mainstream electric vehicle, is no exception. Customers have been experiencing delays in deliveries, and Ford, it appears, feels their pain. A member of the Mach -E Club forum posted an email he received from Ford telling buyers that they’re getting $1,000 back on the purchase and an additional 250 kWh, for a total of 500 kWh, of free charging. However, Ford isn’t citing the pandemic as an excuse for delayed delivery, and it seems not everyone experiencing a delay is getting the same email.

“This is why we want to take a moment to update you on some of the challenges we’ve faced in meeting demand and delivery timing for the Mustang Mach-E. We continue to build and ship vehicles every day, but we’re doing so with meticulous attention to detail and dedication to quality. Your vehicle timing was impacted by more than one of these quality checks,” says the email from Ford’s Vice President of Sales, US and Canada, Andrew Frick.

It appears quality control has been the issue here, although considering Ford’s recent issues with F-150s, it’s good to see the brand taking its first EV so seriously. Ford has been making sure it fixes problems before releasing new vehicles to customers, which should help it avoid a reputation like Tesla’s.

Some of the forum members are saying they received the same email but without the offer, leaving them wondering what the qualification is. CarBuzz is personally in touch with an owner who received the email with the offer, so we can confirm it is genuine. However, according to Emma Bergg via TorqueNews, Ford’s Mustang Mach-E spokesperson, what customers are offered depends on the length of the delay. Bergg also says that “Ford will cover the first month’s payment for approximately 110 customers experiencing extended delays receiving their Mustang Mach-E.”
