Fantuzzi-Bodied Ferrari 250 GT Lusso, One Of The Rarest Ferraris In Existence, Up For Sale

Apart from the odd blunder here and there, Ferrari’s history is littered with some of the finest cars ever to grace the earth. It doesn’t matter if you drive a relatively pedestrian Portofino M or you’re the lucky owner of an incredibly rare Enzo, there’s something innately magical about most of Maranello’s creations.

But even amongst these automotive stars, there are a select few that shine brighter than the rest. This one-of-one 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso bodied by Fantuzzi is a prime example. Offered for sale by UK-based Ferrari Specialists GTO Engineering, this Italian classic is a must-have for monied members of the Tifosi.

It’s got an incredible back story. The uniquely styled 250 GT Lusso is the 16th example ever made, but it’s set apart from the rest by its unique styling. This example was treated to a Fantuzzi coach-built body and is purported to be the only one of its kind in existence.

GTO Engineering has spent over a decade caring for this one-off wonder, which has lived an incredibly fascinating life. Originally painted in Grigio Metallizzato (dark gray), the 250 GT Lusso spent its early years in Italy under the ownership of Luciano Pederzani, who built Formula F2 and F3 cars.

Pederzani sent the car to be re-bodied by Fantuzzi, who gave it a more streamlined front end and revised the headlights. But in 1966, the Ferrari emigrated to Venezuela and, just two years later, found itself living in New York. Ever the jet-setter, the 250 GT Lusso was living in Hawaii, but not before another owner called Terry Kramer made some modifications to the vehicle.

It is believed that Kramer added a more pronounced rear spoiler and the 250 GTO-inspired vents on the front quarter panel and nose. By the late ’70s, the Ferrari had exchanged hands twice more but, in 1981, it was put in storage and not seen again for 24 years.

In 2011, the Fantuzzi-bodied beauty was treated with a full concours restoration by DK Engineering, where the car was stripped down to its bare chassis. It is here where the Ferrari was repainted in the signature Rosso Corsa hue and, following the painting process and an incredibly intricate refurbishment, the mechanical rebuild started taking place in 2012 with GTO Engineering entrusted to do the work.

The owner spared no expense and worked together with the specialists to keep the one-of-a-kind Ferrari perfect. Under the last owner’s stewardship, the classic has since received upgraded seat belts, mirrors, and luggage straps.

Like the 250 GT Breadvan that recently had an unfortunate accident, this Ferrari is truly special and will undoubtedly have collectors salivating at first sight. If you must add this to your collection, you had better have vast wealth reserves. Listed as “price on application”, this one is for the big rollers only.
