As the presenter emphasizes, the CSL’s greater performance has been made possible by a plethora of weight-saving measures. It starts with the liberal use of carbon for the front splitter, air intake, hood, mirror caps, roof, and diffuser. The Frozen Brooklyn Grey metallic example featured in the video looks particularly menacing, and we must admit that the brash appearance has gradually grown on us.

Heading inside, there are more changes. While you can simply press a button to adjust the seat in your 7 Series, the M4 CSL’s procedure is a lot manlier. The presenter shows us how the M carbon full bucket seats can only be adjusted for height by changing screw connections in the seats’ base. You can even remove the seat head pad to make more space for a helmet.

More carbon has been used for the construction of the lightweight center console that includes a wireless charging pad. At the back, there’s not much to talk about: the rear seats are gone and in their place is a storage area for two helmets.

The M4 CSL’s record Nurburgring lap time is achievable by all these weight-saving measures but also because of a more powerful engine, a stiffer suspension, and a uniquely tuned eight-speed automatic. The 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine makes 543 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, resulting in a 0-60 mph time of just 3.6 seconds. Inside and out, BMW has not held back in creating the fiercest M4 yet, and the new M4 CSL is clearly the new crown jewel of the M lineup.
