Drag Race: Jeep Wrangler 392 Vs. Ford Bronco Raptor

Welcome to the drag race that was as inevitable as the earth’s rotation and a flat Earther’s denial that said process even exists.

The new Bronco Raptor is now available, and it takes the fight directly to the Jeep Wrangler 392. While both were built for high-speed off-roading fun, we can’t deny that the entire internet was twiddling its thumbs waiting for this video to happen.

Before we get started, a quick reminder of the powertrain differences between the two cars. The angry Jeep is powered by a naturally aspirated V8 producing 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Jeep claims a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds.

The Bronco Raptor takes a more modern approach. It has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 producing 418 hp and 448 lb-ft.

Now that you’ve watched the video, we can all agree it was a resounding victory for displacement. We thought the Bronco Raptor’s low-down torque would help it, but the 392 hurls itself at the horizon. Debate settled.

Thankfully, The Fast Lane Car provides us with additional information we can all argue about in the comments section. The 2021 Bronco First Edition also makes an appearance with the smaller 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost engine under the hood. It produces 310 hp and 400 lb-ft. How does it compare to its bigger brother?

The Raptor has more power, but it weighs significantly more. The First Edition is roughly 4,600 pounds, but the Raptor tips the scales at approximately 5,800 lbs.

Thankfully, the Raptor wins that race, stopping everyone with a Raptor on order from committing suicide.

But wait, there’s more. Since the correct equipment was on hand, they also tested the Bronco Raptor’s 0-60 mph time.

Are you sitting down, Raptor owners? The car took 7.89 seconds to get to 60 mph. Queue the biggest ooofff in human history.

Before the Jeep guys get too excited, the Wrangler’s quarter-mile and 0-60 mph times were also recorded. It completed the Vin Diesel test in 15.22 seconds at 94 mph. According to Jeep, it should be able to run a 13-second quarter-mile.

The 4.5-second 0-60 mph claim is off as well. On this day, it took 6.66 seconds to get to 60 mph, proving once and for all that the Jeep Wrangler 392 was a gift sent straight from hell.

While you’re here, we’ll let you in on a little secret. These 0-60 mph times accurately represent what a car is capable of. If you want the kinds of times manufacturers and journalists get, you must be insanely brutal with the car. No reasonable owner will ever abuse their vehicle in that way.

Now that the straight-line on tarmac debate is settled, we’d like to see something more relevant like a drag race on gravel or a jump-off. Unlike Teslas, these cars were made for jumping.
