Drag Race: Audi RS e-tron GT Vs. Formula E Car

Last week, Audi unveiled the new e-tron GT, which serves as the German automaker’s new flagship electric car. With its slick, sculpted design, this is easily one of the most attractive EVs on the market with performance that rivals modern combustion-powered supercars. In its range-topping RS guise, a dual electric motor setup generates a combined 590 hp and 612 lb-ft, which increases to 637 hp with overboost.

With this setup, the RS e-tron GT will accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.1 seconds and max out at an electronically limited 155 mph. It’s probably only a matter of time we see the Audi e-tron GT go head-to-head with the Tesla Model S Plaid and Porsche Taycan Turbo.

Before then, former F1 racer and electric car advocate Nico Rosberg, who is also on the order list for the Rimac C_Two, wanted to find out how the a prototype e-tron GT RS fares against Audi’s new 2021 Formula E race car in a 1/8 mile race staged at the Audi Driving Experience Center in Neuburg, Germany. Like the RS e-tron GT, the Formula E racer will do 0-62 mph in around three seconds and top out at 160 mph.

Behind the wheel of the race car is Formula E world champion Lucas Di Grassi, while the e-tron GT is driven by Rosberg. Conditions for the novel drag race weren’t ideal, however, as the track was covered in snow.
