This sketch needs to become a reality.

The current generation Chevrolet Silverado is not a bad-looking truck by any means. Designers were definitely more aggressive compared to its relatively bland and conservative predecessor. Still, it’s hard not to wonder whether the current design couldn’t have stretched things even further. Chevy rightly does not want to abandon traditional truck buyers but it also needs to attract younger customers who place aggressive styling at the top of their lists. The Ram 1500 often fits the bill for that group.

But GM’s design team has some big plans in place in the near future, such as a redesigned C8 Corvette interior to alleviate some of that model’s ergonomic foibles. Could a more exciting truck be next on the list?

Michael Simcoe has held the top GM design job for a few years now but the latest Silverado’s design was locked in before he took charge. The truck’s upcoming refresh will be an opportunity for Simcoe, but it’s the next generation where things could get very interesting. GM Design has just released this truck sketch on Instagram and we have to say that we’re rather smitten.

This is exactly what the Silverado 1500 should look like: bold and aggressive. If we had to guess, this rendering appears to be of a future ZR2 off-road variant with those beefier tires, front hooks, and increased height.

The narrow headlights are also in line with Chevy’s present styling language. Another cool element is how the running boards are more integrated into the lower body. Combined with strong character lines, enhanced wheel arches, and a chiseled hood, this is truly a winning design.

And, if you look closely, it seems there are some GMC Hummer EV proportions in terms of width and the greenhouse. Who knows? This could in fact be a preview of the upcoming all-electric Silverado. We wouldn’t be disappointed if this turns out to be true. We expect that the facelifted 2022 Chevy Silverado lineup to be revealed later this year and sales will probably get underway next fall.
