Is your ideal color on the list?

Every year, automakers make numerous changes to model packaging for a number of reasons, whether it is supplier-related or because of feature improvements. Sometimes the changes are purely aesthetic, like exterior paint colors, which are added and retired regularly. For the upcoming 2022 model year Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe and Stingray convertible, it appears three exterior colors are being dropped.

Corvette Blogger claims those colors will be the following: Sebring Orange, Shadow Gray, and Zeus Bronze. The report made no mention of any interior color or upholstery changes, but there’s still plenty of time for that to change. The decision to retire Sebring Orange is particularly interesting.

The sales data indicates it was the fourth-best-selling color of 2020 with a total of 1,377 requests, or 6.8 percent of all orders. Shadow Gray, however, came in at number nine on the list with 1,111 orders, which was 5.45 percent. Finally, Zeus Bronze was the least popular of the twelve exterior paint colors with just 548 orders placed, only 2.69 percent.

Those who still desire any of these three colors still have some time to place an order. The last day to request Sebring Orange and Zeus Bronze will be April 29, and Shadow Gray on May 27. Zeus Bronze production will wrap up the week of June 14, June 26 for Sebring Orange, and July 19 for Shadow Gray.

Also noteworthy here are those final “build-out” dates. If they are accurate, it means 2021 model year Corvette production could be ending sooner than normal. Typically, the model year changeovers take place in late July or August. One likely reason for this is GM’s desire to get Corvette production back on a regular production schedule following the fallout due to the pandemic and, before that, the five-week-long UAW strike.

But since three colors are being retired, will three new colors take their place? Probably. One possibility is the Dark Silver featured on the C8.R race car. We’ll hopefully have answers soon.
