The Celestiq will be the brand’s second EV.

Cadillac is going all-in with electric vehicles, despite having just revealed the new Blackwing sedans. Consider them to be the luxury brand’s final hurrah with the internal combustion engine. The Cadillac Celestiq, however, is the future. In January, company executives teased the upcoming Audi e-tron GT fighter, claiming it is “designed to set a new standard for luxury EVs.”

It will share the new modular Ultium platform with the also upcoming Lyriq EV crossover. Other details are scarce, but Cadillac did say the Celestiq will have all-wheel drive and four-wheel steering, and an innovative glass roof featuring “four-quadrant, suspended-particle-device smart glass.”

And it turns out we may not have to wait much longer to see all of this. Cadillac Society cites unnamed sources who have claimed this new flagship sedan will be unveiled this coming July or August. Again, this is merely a rumor at this time, but Cadillac did unveil a near production-ready Lyriq well before its own 2022 model year launch. It could be repeating that formula, meaning the Celestiq we might see this summer will also be a highly-developed concept.

What can already confirm is that it won’t come cheap. When it goes on sale as either a 2023 or 2024 model, the hand-assembled Celestiq will carry a starting price of around $200,000.

Details surrounding the exterior design remain under lock and key, though other sources indicate inspiration has been taken from not just the Lyriq, but also the stunning Escala concept (pictured above). The interior will boast a full-width digital display and the advanced battery technology will enable a 400-mile driving range. The Celestiq and Lyriq are only the beginning of GM’s all-electric future.

In what was some of the biggest auto industry news from the past several months, GM announced it will become an all-electric automaker by 2035, thus permanently retiring the combustion engine. We don’t expect Cadillac to begin accepting Celestiq pre-orders whenever the concept is unveiled, so those anxious to own one will need to be patient.
