Supposing it ever makes it to production.
Generally, concept cars are more about presenting a cool idea, not the real-world execution of it. They’re meant to showcase what’s going to be possible over the next several years. Think of it as a mission statement on wheels. The latest mission statement comes from Audi.
The Audi Urbansphere is the German luxury brand’s latest concept, set to be unveiled on April 19, 2022. Unfortunately, that’s the only written info Audi is willing to give out right now. However, thanks to some elementary photo editing trickery, we were able to dig up some additional details.
Above and below are the only image that Audi provided in its teaser of the Urbanshpere. We boosted the lighting in the lower one to help make out some of the details. The concept will seat at least four, and it looks like the doors will work much like the Audi Grandsphere concept, hinging outwards from the middle of the car.
Where the Grandsphere caused us to immediately draw parallels to the low-slung GT-like shape of the Audi A8, this new concept’s slightly more abrupt nose and longer rooflines it’ll be a large confirm that the new concept will be an SUV, like the Audi Q8.
Looks aside, the large, open interior makes us think the Urbansphere will further mimic the Grandsphere concept, which aims to isolate its passengers from their surroundings. As the name suggests, we expect it to be focused on urban life, and avoiding its pitfalls. Sounds like a pretty good place to wait out traffic to us.
We’re also expecting the newest Urbansphere concept to be fully electric, like both the Skysphere and Grandsphere before it. With self-driving slowly (very slowly) becoming more integrated into cars, we wouldn’t be surprised if taking the wheel yourself was more of a suggestion than a requirement in this concept. For more info on the concept, we’ll simply have to wait until it debuts on the 19th.
